Becoming a member of Liberation Bakery's Community Supported Bakery

If you would like to become a member, just email us and we'll put you on our customer list .

At Liberation Bakery you order what you want when you want....  but it does have to be on a bake day we choose.

By sending us an email and requesting to get on our email list,  you become a "member" of our Community Supported Bakery(CSB). Membership only means you will be getting emails with more information on our bakery.   If, at any time, you would like to opt out of our mailing, please just send us an email and we will gladly remove you from our list.

It's rewarding to see people respond so positively to the option of being able to buy our breads.  Most of our breads are naturally leavened, which we believe not only improves the favor and crust,  but also the wholesomeness of the loaves.  We also believe we are offering a completely different food product than mass produced breads and we hope you agree.

So...Now that you're a member of a Community Supported Bakery(CSB) it might  be useful for you to know the how it works.

We love it when our customers bring baskets to pick up their bread

A Community Supported Bakery (CSB) is very similar in concept to a CSA( Community Supported Agriculture), in that it's providing locally produced  food on a small scale to community members, but because we're selling baked goods, it’s a little different.  Unlike a CSA where you make a commitment to buy food every week , our CSB members order only when they want, what they want.  Isn't that Liberating!  But like a CSA, we believe the relationship between members and the food producer is very important.  We will rely on you to pick up your baked goods if you've ordered them and you will rely on us to provide you with good quality baked goods.  Please feel free to give us feedback on new types of baked goods you would like us to add to our menus...we can't promise you we'll bake them, but we will promise you we'll consider it.

Liberation Bakery is basically a micro bakery...super duper small bakery , run by Kathleen Busche and Ora Jewell-Busche.  We've created a small bakery  where we live.  It’s basically 3 ovens, a commercial  sink, a commercial refrigerator, a commercial mixer, storage, and a baker's bench crammed into an 11' x 13' area.  Because it's in our home and because its baked goods, it falls under the cottage industry rules in Minnesota allowing us to sell baked goods directly to our consumers.  We cannot sell commercially.

Liberation Bakery was an idea born out of Kathleen's desire to "shake it up" and do what she loved doing (and was passionate about), ….when she felt like doing it, no matter how little money she made......hence Liberation Bakery, where Yeast goes Wild and the Baker has Radical Ideas.  That gives Kathleen license to play with bread and descriptions of bread.  Its the craziest thing to start a business with no goals of making alot of money, but that's what you get to do when you are truly liberated.  What a gift.

Kathleen has been baking bread since childhood, but was "born again" in the bread world when she discovered naturally leavened breads about 9 years ago.  Since then she has been taking professional level baking classes around the country to develop her skills in a highly creative and challenging craft.  She has been a part of the Bread Bakers Guild of America since 2010. Ora Jewell-Busche is new to the craft, but is a keen observer and a skilled artist( a make-up, hair and costume designer by trade).  Her skills in scoring breads are demonstrated on some of our most beautiful loaves.  Ora joined the Bread Bakers Guild of America in 2018.

Here's our process:

The next time we schedule a "Bake Day" we'll send you an email with a menu for that day and a timeline for ordering items.  We will always have 3-4 different types of bread and a couple of sweets.  The types of breads and sweets will change each Bake Day, but we suspect there may be a few that we consistently offer.  Our next "Bake Day" is not scheduled, but we expect it to be somewhere in mid-February. , so watch for emails before then.  You are NOT required to order items, but if you do, items will need to be picked up between 4-6pm on pick-up day. Right now pick-up is happening in downtown Duluth at 7 1/2 W Superior St, but that could change. You pay for items when you pick them up.  We prefer cash or checks, but will accept debit cards/credit with the use of a SQUARE( a 3% convenience fee will be addded to all SQUARE purchases).

Thanks again for you interest, if you have any questions, please send a quick email.  If you want to watch our progress you can follow us on Instagram at Liberation Bakery.
